Key dates and activities for the Our Hospital Project

  • Application decision: Hospital and Road

PLANNING APPLICATION OVERVIEW | As at 1 December 2021

To ensure that the construction of the new hospital can commence in a timely manner (subject to Planning permission being granted), we will be submitting three, distinct planning applications, as sequenced and outlined below.

1. Reprovision of Overdale health services to former Les Quennevais School site 

We are seeking permission to re-provide the healthcare services currently being provided at Overdale to the former Les Quennevais School site.

The project team received confirmation from the Regulation Section of the Government of Jersey (GOJ) that an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) would not need to accompany our planning application.

2. Demolition of Overdale Hospital buildings (autumn 2021)

We are seeking permission to demolish those buildings on the existing Overdale hospital site which are already in GOJ ownership. The remaining properties, not currently in GOJ ownership, will not be included in this application.

Our intention is to submit this application in autumn 2021, receive planning permission in winter 2021-22 and commence the demolition works by spring 2022. 

This separate, earlier demolition planning application will allow elements of work to commence in advance or at the same time as any determination of the main planning application, prior to any discharge of conditions associated with the larger scheme. Individual buildings will only be demolished once they are no longer required operationally. This assists with the overall deadline for construction and delivery of the hospital.

The project team received confirmation from the Regulation Section of the GOJ that an EIS would not need to accompany our planning application.

3. Main Hospital (winter 2021)

We are seeking permission to build Jersey’s new hospital and any associated works including the upgrade and realignment of Westmount Road and the demolition of the balance of requisite properties, located outside of the existing Overdale Hospital site e.g. Jersey Bowling Club, the Jersey Water building and some private properties. 

Our intention is to submit this application in winter 2021, participate in the Public Inquiry (expected to take place in late spring/early summer 2022), receive the planning permission in summer 2022, then commence construction immediately after. Our first priority will be on the upgrade and realignment of Westmount Road, which enables the wider project.

The need for Environmental Impact Assessment and its scope has already been agreed with the Regulation Section of the GOJ and an EIS will accompany the application.
