Constructing a first-class hospital for Jersey

OHP puts on first brew in Acorn crew's new kitchen

Community | News

On Monday, Our Hospital Project (OHP) team members put on the kettle and made the Acorn team their first cups of tea in their new staff kitchen, which is part of Acorn’s newly built Donation Centre – opening in early April.

The kitchen was installed over a few days by five volunteering OHP team members, who collectively contributed around 120 hours to the local, social enterprise. The team which included construction management apprentices, a planner, an electrical engineer and a design manager thoroughly enjoyed working together on a tangible task, being hands-on and working on-site – all for such a worthwhile charity that empowers locals through a range of employment challenges.

The Acorn Kitchen ‘Community Outreach Project’ aligns with OHP’s five social value priorities: Education; Health & Wellbeing; Employment, Skills & Business; Environment; and Responsible Business.

OHP’s link to Acorn, the social enterprise arm of Jersey Employment Trust (JET), was provided via ROK Limited. Part of the ROK FCC joint venture team, who were appointed to design and deliver Jersey’s new hospital, ROK has supported JET since 2015 via fundraising (for their first van), volunteering time (including a board of trustee’s appointment) and taking on JET’s first ‘back to work’ placement candidate – who is still employed with ROK today, seven years on.

The team at OHP are proud to invest their time, skills and experience to help a local charity that in turn provides Islanders with employment support and opportunities and greener consumer options.
